IMO, there's no Mr Collins parallel in Mamma Mia. There is one, however in Crime and Punishment! Avdotya's fiance Pyotr Petrovich Luzhin, is very like Mr Collins. I have done only a little research, and have yet to turn up anything that says Austen was read by, or an influence on Dostoevsky.

Carrie, the idea for the post came from me wondering why I was "craving" Mamma Mia so much--I was feeling down, when I often crave Austen, and the connection(s) evolved from there.

If what you say is true, that leaves one unanswered question.

Which of those three gorgeous men was the dreadful Mr Collins from P&P?

it reads fine -- I think it only goes a little fuzzy on the comment page because it automatically gets shrunk down a bit... doesn't resize well.

I'll have to share these with my wife! :-)

I can't read or see the table. It comes up with a red X. But I saw it on your FB page, so I am up to speed. :)

It's weird - I could read the table completely clearly on Google Reader, but when I clicked over to comment, it went fuzzy.

I was just going to say that now I know why I loved that movie so much!
