It's waiting for me at the library right now, and the website says it's 582 pages. But that might be OK anyway. I read my first book today, a gn that's 183 pages, and flew through it in no time. So maybe your husband is on to something. ;-) I also have a bunch of writing books in my possible pile--Graywolf has a lovely series of books called "The Art of", with each one being the art of something else: subtext, the line, etc. I plan to read at least one or two of those.
