Holly, not all book signings suck. There was the panel I went to that had Neil Gaiman, Steve Brust and Lois McMaster Bujold. I invited Steve Brust to dinner. He said more fans should do that, and brought his parrot when he came over, and devoured all the scallion noodles. And seeing Lev Grossman, author of Magicians, made me appreciate that book even more. But there was also that embarrassing time I went to an author signing, saw some guy I recognized, gave him a big smile and wave, then realized it was the author, Michael Chabon, who I'd recognized from his book jacket. To his credit, he smiled and waved back.

See I have a soft spot for Neil because of his poem about DWJ's dedication to him. Interesting contrast to my meeting with Diana, though, where she was just as amazing as I needed her to be. Dunno what she would have been like after a huge queue at a comic shop in tropical heat though.
