I read this novel a long time ago and loved it. I really enjoyed your take on it.

I really enjoy your perspective. I had heard good things about the book and thought I'd give it a try as an audiobook (I do a lot of driving to/from work). Early on I was already feeling a bit overwhelmed by explicit detail (TMI, you could say) and the denouement was when my brother borrowed my car, started it up, and turned on the radio right in the middle of one of these detailed descriptions. It was the last straw... and I gave up on it. :-)

I also enjoy when I pick up a new device, such as NB above... for some reason it's escaped my attention heretofore.

Lastly, your comments bring to mind this (insensitive, to say the least) clip I recently saw about Christianity as a 'next step'. Somehow, I've managed to completely miss this interpretation and it's interesting to see it mentioned again. I'm tempted to pick up the book again just for the purpose of seeing a different take on gender in religion; though I admit I've got enough on my plate that this will probably never happen!

I remember reading this book when I was maybe 20 years-old... I had put a lot of my personal reading on hold while I completed my undergrad, but I picked this up during the summer when I was taking a few courses and it still sticks out in my mind as being one of those books that I just devoured. I thought Diamant's filling in of the gaps, so to speak, was clever and felt authentic to me.

That said, years later, I remember next to nothing about this book. I'm not sure I would enjoy it nearly as much if I were to read it today, but for what it was at that time in my life, I liked it.
