so hard to choose between an old fav and a new fav... i'll go with the new: olive kitteridge by elizabeth strout
(btw, i couldn't even FINISH possession, i hated it that much. but i've enjoyed lots of the books you recommend here. in fact, i started reading graphic novels for the first time and i'm hooked on the unwritten) thanks!

Yes, Sherry, you are interesting, and I always think it's intriguing to find books people hate. Lonesome Dove was very male centric, violent, and death ridden, so I think it would be easy to dislike. Then again, the west wasn't hospitable to women, but still, not really a female-forward book.

I love how book geeks try to get literal about desert islands and what would be practical. But yes, Les Miz would be a good one!

I actively hated Lonesome Dove. Does that make me interesting?

As for my one book choice, Les Miserables has been my favorite one book for many years. And I haven't re-read it in a long time, so it would be familiar and fresh at the same time. And long. And I might need to know something about waste disposal on the desert island, so the sewers of Paris would be of practical interest.

Middlemarch is on my to read list (so I want to read along) and I just put Possession on hold at the library. This is why I stopped planning what I am going to read.

Middlemarch is a big favorite on those Flavorwire lists. I want to read it -- plus, it's the next pick of my book club!

My favorite is, oddly, also Possession -- which I think is probably why I so enjoy your blog!

Possession works on so many levels for me; it's a mystery, a satire, a myth, and a romance, all bound up into one epic of an adventure story. And the ending never fails to makes me cry.

If I were to choose a non-Possession book, I vote for A Little Princess. I aspire to live my life with Sara Crewe's dignity.

If I were writing a list for FlavorWire, it would include Bleak House and Middlemarch.

Gun to my head? Lolita by Nabokov.

Don't give me time to think. As I am writing this I am already wavering.

You know the author of my latest Kindle purchase let his subjects pick TEN books.
