Margie, I was thinking of choosing Kindred for one of my other groups, Gods and Monsters, where we read mostly novels with themes of myth and religion. But we're doing Beloved in September, and I think they might be too similar. I may read it myself alongside Beloved.

The Menolly books were formative for me. The whole Pern series, to a degree, but the Harper Hall ones especially. I loved how rough Menolly was around the edges, how stubborn and capable yet painfully shy in certain circumstances, and gawky and awkward in most.

I've just pulled Tuck Everlasting off my shelf as a book to revisit for the 48 Hour Book Challenge (underway this weekend) and one that I'm sure will come up during the Shelf Awareness discussion. Now if only I could remember where I stuck my copy of the Skurnick book.

I know! It wasn't on clearance, but it was only 9.99, and is exactly why I always check Austen and Bronte when I go in.
