		<description>I had the same thought about Turtle and her mother.  I think as a kid it never bothered me reading about neglected or unloved kids because I was very secure in my little world. I knew I was loved and I didnâ€™t know anyone that was neglected or that appeared unloved. In my safe little bubble it seemed like something that happened in books but not reality. 

Now, as an adult I know it can be reality so it bothers me more. Iâ€™ve also found I tend to identify more with the mothers in books from childhood. So I find Turtleâ€™s mother appalling and I felt sorry for poor Claudiaâ€™ mother worrying about her two missing children. Never crossed my mind as a kid.</description>
