yum. i devored these as a teen - flowers in the attic, petals in the wind, if there be thorns. christine marries the old man who takes them in (father figure), a male ballerina, and her mother's husband, all while her brother chris is in agony that she doesn't choose him.
i think the 4th book was about the son she had with bart who is evil, but i can't recall the title...
i read garden of shadows too but i hated the grandmother so much by then that - although she had a pretty sad story too - i only had a modicum of pity for her

good call on the cover appearing like another ghostly-type series - they all did that, with the cover opening to a more disturbing scene. god, i loved her books back then

Interesting. I just requested GOS from the library. Might as well finish my summer with a last dash of over-the-top gothic.

Amy, the Wikipedia entry is good at delineating which books were written by her and which by the anonymous team, which is mostly Andrew Niederman. She died in '86, in the middle of the 4th Dollenganger books (Garden of Shadows is #5) and the middle of one other series. Those were finished by Niederman, and then on from there it was all him (or him heading a team).

Someone on another blog noted that the series prequel, Garden of Shadows, is actually not too bad. It covers the life of the grandmother and is written at least in part, and maybe in total, by "Team Andrews". I might check that one out. I don't think I ever read it. It didn't come out until 1987, and I was way past these books by then.
