Thalia, I've not read that book since we read it together, but I recall that the husband, the thinly disguised stand-in for Sheldon Goldberg back then, was not sympathetic, and that we were supposed to identify with the main character, who left him for better sex, since he was all cerebral. In this book, the male character is the more complex and sympathetic, while the pretty, smart young woman has a lot of growing up to do.

well, she has form on writing herself into books given 'the mind body problem' - is that what you meant by this new one being an apology of sorts to husband number one? I've never found any of her other books readable after that one, so maybe I should give this one a try for completeness sake
