Thalia, good to know, and I will give Flood a try, esp. because a kind friend has access to an advance copy of #3.

Funny. I did not read oryx and crake, but went straight to 'flood' - think I picked it up in an airport. I liked it a lot, although I thought the ending was relatively weak (now I realise it was not an ending). It has a lot of female protagonists in the various stories, in fact very few men. Perhaps oryx and crake was her 'male' view of the story, 'flood' the female and the third will be the synthesis?

When I realised that I'd started part way through I went to read oryx and crake but could not get into it and gave up. Might mean you would prefer 'flood;'?

It's interesting that you felt this way about this particular Atwood, whereas I have always felt that way about her in general--I just never found her particularly compelling (unlike most of my female friends). Of course, it's been many many years since I tried her. It's possible I would feel differently now.
