Late to the party, I know, I know.

2 observations about Episode 10: Wandering Rocks.
- parallel narratives from shifting perspectives / differing points of view / characters. All over modern fiction. So lovely to see and acknowledge the roots of such.
- Blazes Boylan's "swell pair of kicks" [ML 1946, p. 247] Again, who knew!

Quote: "We call it D. B. C. because they have damn bad cakes." [p. 245]
(No one tell Dunn Bros. Coffee.)

Catching up w/ the wanderings of Episode 10, though a new distraction has popped up on my radar in the form of a remembered pop-up map of Dublin. Now I want to trace all the wanderings. ;)

I don't have much to say about this week's section, so here are some of my favorite bits.

The Temple Bar reference on page 233 reminded me of my visits to Dublin when I was studying abroad. :)

Another rumination on Shakespeare:
"Shakespeare is the happy hunting ground of all minds that have lost their balance." (248)

A nice phrase:
"The cup that cheers but not inebriates." (240)

And my favorite phrase of the section:
"Invincible ignorance." (220)

My Ode to episode 10:

A rocking on a ship;
To and fro, like waves.

Back and forth in time;
Forward and behind.

A comet's tale;
Heavenly body.

Clock and gem and clocks and gems.

A sad Dignam's son, grey with the memory of his father's demise.

"Born all in the dark wormy, earth, cold specks of fire, evil, lights shining in the darkness."(p. 241)

"Coin rang. Clock clacked.

...A sail! A veil awave upon the waves.

Lost...."(p. 256)

"schoolboys with satchels"(p. 251)

And great back and forth with Mulligan and Haines on a recap of Stephen's Shakespeare diatribe, beginning with Mulligan(p.249):

M: --"you missed Dedalus on Hamlet."

H: --"I'm sorry, Shakespeare is the happy huntingground of all minds that have lost their balance."

M: --"You should see him when his body loses its balance. Wandering Aengus I call him."

H: --"I am sure he has an idée fixe..."

I too enjoyed this section with its multiple points of view. I chuckled over the priest's name (Conmee??), but was charmed by his opinions. I still don't feel like I have any clue what's going on, but I'm enjoying the ride.
