I interpreted yrstruly & co as addicts—but I wasn't thinking about race. This could be because I just finished Bad Feminist and am now trying to be super aware of profiling. I was intrigued by the videophone section, particularly this bit: "It occurred to Hal that although he lied about meaningless details to Orin on the phone, it had never occurred to him to consider whether Orin was ever doing the same thing." (136) It was strikingly real: you can't get away with the same multitasking things on video calls that you can get away with on audio calls. Videophonic stress, indeed. Jim's father had some dark dark thoughts. I was especially struck by: "potential may be worse than one" (168). Re tennis: I think I've learned far more than I needed to know about the sport... How would suicide by microwave work, indeed?
