Ta Da!

If you’re reading this on a feed, please click through. My technical support guy, ahem, husband, finally was able to do the a$$load of tasks needed for an upgrade to Wordpress 2.7, and a new template.

It’s very different from the last, very busy one. I like the non-serif headers and serif for the text–yay for round periods! My only concern so far is that the white background doesn’t provide enough contrast, in general and to see the links.

What do you think? Is it in, or is it out? (Imagine that phrase in Heidi Klum’s voice.)

Ahh! Shockingly different look. I like it, but agree about the white background. Can you change the link color rather than having to change the whole background? The plain text on white seems fine to me.

I appreciate the new streamlined feel of the site, but I do think that the one downside of the new layout is that it does feel rather stark… I don’t think it’s because of the white background (though perhaps you could change the color of your links, because they do sort of blend in), but rather because there is very little graphical interface for readers. A few graphics (even just in your header) would provide some pop, and would help draw passersby in.

[As an aside, it sounds like your husband has the tech side of things down, but if you would like someone to bounce graphic ideas off of (or even to recruit someone to do some design work - pro bono, natch) my boyfriend, Tony, is a graphic designer by trade and has offered his services to you. Pop me a line if you're interested.]

IN! Wow. This looks great! I love the simple look and I am taking some inspiration for a WP site that I’m working on currently. Nice job!

I like the simplicity and love the fonts, but really don’t like the compulsory link underlining, it always looks messy to me.

White is blinding me. Plus, I miss your colors and flowers. But then again, I KNOW you, so they made sense to me.

I should’ve known I would get a range of reactions! I think this is it for now. I’ll live with it for a while and see how it goes. It is a big departure, but I wanted something cleaner after the busy-ness of the last one. It feels seasonal to the cold, cold winter we’re having here in MN. Changing things like background and link color and underlining can technically be done, but I’m not sure it’s worth the work, since it’s not like I’m marrying this, or anything. I’ll try for a new one every six months or so. The next one should be easier, since it probably won’t involved lots of backups and a big upgrade.
