“OMG, Shoes!”

I found OMG, Shoes at Big Brain Comics, and had to have it. It’s an illustrated ‘zine-style shoe memoir by Sarah Morean, in the manner of Ilene Beckerman’s Love, Loss and What I Wore. Morean uses pencils and watercolor to detail 44 pairs of shoes, with a sentence or two about their history.

It’s a charming little book, made even more so by its deliberately cute black faux-lizard soft cover and assortment of decorative bindings. I chose a simple pink bow, but there were faux pearls and other pretty, shiny options. At $5, it’s a bargain; I feel like I went shoe shopping in someone else’s closet.

Helllooo… have you seen my shoe album on Facebook? You can view it for free, since you are my ‘friend’ and I have (and continue) to highlight actual photos of my fab shoe collection. And the ultimate perk? YOU ARE MY SISTER, WE WEAR NEARLY THE SAME SIZE AND YOU CAN BORROW ANY AT ANYTIME!

Carolyn, you mean other than all the other stuff you’ve sent me over the years? I’ll try to get and send you a copy. If I manage that, could you make me a mix CD? Or a quilt? Whichever is easier, yanno. Heh.

And Syd, the problem I have is not having a life that goes with fabulous shoes. In addition to my ratty Timberland boots, if it’s not snowy/slushy I can wear my Frye boots or my sneakers. I hate the winter shoe wardrobe. I’m longing for spring. I miss my cute shoes.

I wonder if Sarah Morean would consider doing a shoe book of someone else’s shoe closet. Hmmm.

I loved Love, Loss, and What I Wore. And I’m sure I’d love this. Fun.

We got the last copy at Big Brain for Carolyn, but I’ll look next week to see if they’ve gotten more. I could lend it to you, but I want to support the artist.

  6. Sarah Morean Says:

    I’m the artist! Thanks.

Hi, Sarah! We bought Big Brain’s last copy, so you should get more to Michael. Is there any way to stiffen up the cover? It’s super cute but floppy.

Let me know if you’d be interested in illustrating someone else’s shoes, or closet items!
