Does the photo of this cake mesmerize you, too? I saw this on the lovely food blog Smitten Kitchen yesterday, and was, indeed, smitten. Thank you Deb, for creating what looks to be a go-to recipe.
I showed it to 5yo Drake, who will be 6 in August. He said he would like it for his birthday cake. Which is good, because I was going to make it anyway.

Hmmm. No matter how I look at it, it doesn’t mesmerize. What makes it so special? Your dinosaur cake w/ spinach-for-green buttercream frosting as Drake’s last year’s cake looked better. Will need some convincing.

I feel this captures the essence of a birthday cake–well done, simple; elegant. Yeah, it’s not as fancy as the dinosaur cake, or the cake for Guppy’s third birthday that I had to frost with a blowdryer since the frosting seized b/c the house was so cold, but somehow, to me, it’s just perfect. I can’t wait to try it.
